The traditional Sri Lankan greeting, Ayubowan, is more than a hello — it’s a wish for good health and a long life. Say it with your palms together and you’ll receive the same heartfelt welcome in return.


2. Kohomada? (කොහොමද?) – “How are you?”


Simple and sincere greeting used when you meet someone, similar to checking in with a friends and family . You might hear it with a smile, a wave, or even over a cup of tea. It shows care and interest in the other person’s well-being.


3. Isthuthi (ස්තුතියි) – “Thank You”


Gratitude is a universal language, but “isthuthi” carries kindness. Use it often — when served a meal or offered directions.


4. Hari (හරි) – “Okay”


A short, friendly word that fits almost anywhere. Whether agreeing to a suggestion or acknowledging a story, “hari” keeps conversations light and easy.


5. Mata Therenneh Naha (මට තේරෙන්නේ නෑ) – “I Don’t Understand”

6. Epa (එපා) – “No, Thank You”

8. Kiyanna (කියන්න) – “Please Tell Me”
