World Environment Day is more than a global observance. At The Cliff Weligama, it’s a reminder that sustainability begins in our own backyard or in our case, right outside our restaurant on the beach. This year, our team took part in something close to our hearts: a beach clean-up along the shores of Weligama Bay, Sri Lanka. With gloves in hand and a shared purpose, we collected plastic waste, bottle caps, discarded fishing nets, and other ocean debris a small but meaningful step toward restoring the coastline we call home.

5 Ways You Can Take Action for Environment

Reduce Single-Use Plastics

Plastic pollution is suffocating our ecosystems. Make the switch to reusable bottles, tote bags, and containers, and support brands that are actively eliminating plastic from their supply chains.

Choose Sustainable Travel

When planning your next trip, opt for eco-certified hotels, use low-emission or public transport, and support locally owned businesses that operate with the environment in mind.

Support Ethical & Eco-Friendly Brands

Entrepreneurs and creatives can lead the way. Whether you're in food, fashion, tech, or wellness, examine your packaging, sourcing, and impact. Every small shift toward sustainability adds up.

Organize or Join a Community Clean-Up

Clean-ups don’t just improve the environment, they build community. Whether it's a beach, forest trail, or city park, gather your neighbors or team and take action together.

Educate & Inspire Others

Knowledge creates momentum. Use your blog, social media, or physical space to share tips, highlight environmental facts, and celebrate local sustainability heroes.

World Environment Day is a call to protect what sustains us not just on one day, but all year round. At The Cliff Weligama, we’re committed to building a more conscious future, rooted in respect for the land and sea that inspire everything we do.

Let’s restore, protect, and thrive together.
